The LYNX Rapid Transit Service is a 9.6-mile light rail line that services the Charlotte metro area. Operated by CATS, the Charlotte Area Transit System, it began operations in 2007 between Uptown / downtown / Charlotte Center City and Pineville on Charlotte's southern city limits. Future expansion of the LYNX light rail system are in the works and could include additional light rail, commuter rail, streetcars and rapid bus transit service.
