The annual "Gospel Shout!" event at the United House of Prayer for All People in Charlotte, NC, attracts several hundred people. The free concert and soul food dinner showcases local gospel and shout bands. The 2009 event was presented by the Levine Museum of the New South and Center City Partners. The traditional, soul-based shout band musical style originated in the 1920s in African-American churches in North Carolina.
