Boating, tubing, fishing and relaxation are popular past times on North Carolina's Mountain Island Lake, one of three man-made lakes in and around Mecklenburg County, NC. (The other two lakes are Lake Norman on the north side of the county and Lake Wylie on the far south). The lake was created in 1924 during the building of the Mountain Island Hydroelectric Station. Mountain Island Lake has 61 miles of shoreline.
