Visitors to Roanoke Island NC can experience the production of the Lost Colony - America's longest running outdoor drama and one of the country's most intriguing unsolved mysteries. The outdoor play is about the first English settlement in the New World in 1587, the members of which mysteriously disappeared. Today, the story is performed on summer nights at the Waterside Theater. The Lost Colony production was written by North Carolina playwright Paul Green and is produced by the Roanoke Island Historical Association. The Lost Colony production is considered by many to be the grandfather of all outdoor dramas.
