Visitors to The Blowing Rock experience a travel attraction overhanging Johns River Gorge. The immense cliff, which stands 4,000 feet above sea level, got its name because the rocky walls of the gorge form a flume that sweeps up the northwest winds with such force that it returns light objects thrown into the void.
