Carowinds, a Cedar Fair Entertainment Company amusement / theme park, thrills riders on Nighthawk, the Carolina's only flying coaster. Nighthawk, which opened in 2004, zooms riders (mostly flying face down) through eight inversions during the 2-minute ride. When it opened, the coaster had more inversions than any coaster in the Southeast. Nighthawk has one 68-foot-tall vertical loop, four 180-degree inversions and two corkscrews.
